The beginning of the Cricoteka or else the Centre for Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor goes back to 1955 when Tadeusz Kantor founded Theater Cricot 2. At the beginning, he acted in the House of Artists, then moved to the Gallery Kszysztofory. Finnaly, in 1980 he moved to the current location of Centre for Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor archives. Performances staged within Cricot 2 based on the works of painting of Tadeusz Kantor and the inspiration derived from a prominent Polish artist Witkacy.

Tadeusz Kantor is considered to be a total artist - because of that visiting Circoteka is a must visit for people who love art. Centre for Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor is a unique combination of independent theater and painting. Recently after the death of Tadeusz Kantor - the main task of the Centre is to disseminate his works.
